Jesus is described in the Holy Bible as “God’s only begotten Son” in John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son. That whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
But what does being the ‘Son of God’ really mean about Jesus ? The way the Bible describes Jesus gives us some answers. It says :
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus, who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:5-11
Jesus is the essence of God sent to earth as a man, as the Son. In short, Jesus is God. Jesus spoke about Himself to give his hearers a better understanding of who He truly was :
“Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:44
“I and the Father are one” John 10:30
“…Anyone who has seen me, has seen the Father. How can you say “Show us the Father”? John 14:9
God’s Word, the Bible, is clear that no one can truly believe in God the Father, without believing in His Son Jesus Christ, because they are One. It says:
“No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” 1 John 2:23.
Some religions and spiritual thinkers have said Jesus was a great man, they have said that He was a prophet or a man of wisdom. In the end it doesn’t matter what these others said about Him, what matters is what He said about Himself. Jesus made it very clear, He is one with the Father, He is the Son of God, He was God in the flesh. So either He was not who He said He was and He cannot be trusted, or He was who He says He was and we should put our full trust in Him.
